Termas del Dayman

While we arrived in Salto and caught a taxi to Termas del Dayman on the evening of July 15th, our first real day in the area was July 16th. Colin and I planned to spend the next few days soaking in the mineral waters of the hot springs just a few minutes walk from our hotel, Hotel El Mirador, which is by far one of the nicest places we have stayed in on this trip! A nice big bed, kitchen and living space, great bathroom – pretty reasonable price too for the quality at $50 USD/night!

From the moment we got up in the morning and started exploring we knew we made the right choice to come directly to the spa instead of staying in Salto. People were walking around in their bathrobes, looking totally chilled out and relaxed on the street. We had a nice pastry breakfast and then changed into our bathing suits for the thermal pools. We bought our tickets and went inside. Pure bliss! There were tons of different large and small pools, hot tubs, and showers all around. We learned that the spring water which heated the pools come from a depth of over 2,000 meters… and they emerge at 160,000 liters per hour! Some were cooler thermal waters at 36°C and some really took getting used to at 41°C! Near each of the pools were thermal showers you could use as well with nice warm water to rinse off with.

We put our stuff in a locker and raced for the first pools – two large and super warm indoor pools with little stools/seats mounted on the floor so you didn’t have to put in the effort to float, you could just sit and soak. Later in the day we found a small (and super hot!) private pool in the back of the spa where we took a bunch of fun photos. The only break we took from laying around in the pools over the next couple of days was for tasty lunches such as burgers at the side of the complex.

We had three days of the same, the only change was when we took a break from the thermal pools to get hour-long massages at another spa complex near door to the pools. Every day we managed to score hours in the small private blazing hot pool near the back of the complex everyone else seemed to forget about. Perfect! At one point while at the pools we tried out the showers that you could lay down in, where super warm thermal water would rain down on you for a relaxing water massage. You can see what I mean from the pictures below. Smile

After days of the thermal water, I noticed a massive change in my curly hair. I’m not sure how it works, but all of a sudden my hair was super healthy-looking. It was even thicker and even more curly than normal and much less frizzy. No tangles at all, just bounce! Even after showers post-baths the results lasted! I hope we end up in a house where we can shower with thermal waters… amazing hair all the time! The thermal water and its properties (namely, heat combined with the salinity in the water) is supposed to be very healing, and after seeing what it did to my hair I really believe it. I’m sure anyone unhealthy or stressed out would benefit from a trip to Termas del Dayman!

We ended up spending an extra night (sadly in a different hotel) in the area after the baths, trying to sort out our plan for traveling in Argentina. We also heard the money situation might be a little complicated, and we wanted to research that as well. Soon we were getting ready to leave for the ferry to cross into our next country. Meet you in Argentina, everyone!
